Yaaay, we are getting married, and we are so happy you will be celebrating with us! We want to make sure you have a great time in Slovenia, so we put together some suggestions regarding accommodation, logistics and travel tips. We would recommend you to start planning soon, as there aren’t that many rooms available in Vipava Valley, and there are no good public transportation options to travel to the wedding from far away.
Let's go
Help us with our wedding preparations, by sharing your plans with us asap.
We have also set up a Whatsapp group, just ask us to joinIn Slovenia we traditionally don’t have stag or hen nights, instead we have Kolona. Kolona is a Slovenian traditional pre-wedding party typical for Vipava Valley. On Saturday morning young guys from the village go to the forest to cut down two pine trees. In the afternoon they put them up in front of the bride's / groom's house and install a sign in between them congratulating the newly weds. In the evening the whole village and other guests come to celebrate. There is lots of wine, food - from grilled meat to homemade sweets - and even more music and dancing till the morning hours. Around 1-2am there is also traditional bargaining for the bride that can get pretty heated up :).
In the second part of Kolona we decorate the pine trees with ivy plants and flowers. To get the flowers we will traditionally “visit” a neighbouring village, that Kristi's village doesn’t have the best history with, and “borrow” their flowers :). There will be of course wine, music, dancing and lots of delicious food.
One thing about Slovenian weddings - they don’t spare on wine and dancing :). We will start at Kristi's place in Budanje to cheer and continue to the village church on top of the hill, in a forest. If you are not coming with your own car on the wedding day (so you can enjoy more ;), you can call a taxi to get to Kristi's home in the first place. From there we will arrange transportation to the church and Villa Vipolze. Please keep in mind: to get to the church, you will need to walk on a rough gravel road for a few minutes, so please take comfortable shoes. You will kill yourself if you arrive there in high heels ;). After the church ceremony, we will drive for 30min to Villa Vipolze in Goriška Brda - Slovenian Tuscany - where we will celebrate till the morning. For going back there will be taxis at hand that can take you home.
Best airports to fly to are:
Trieste airport (55 km)
Ljubljana airport (100 km)
Venice airport(s) (∽250 km)
Pula airport (271 km)
Transportation from the airport:
GoOpti
We advise you to rent a car, as Slovenia is not known for the best public transport.
There is no such thing as Uber in Slovenia neither.
Rent a car agencies:
avantcar (EV)
Sixt
Europcar
On the day of the wedding we will need to drive from Kristi's home to Villa Vipolze, and we suggest not to drive yourself (you would miss out on the good Slovenian wine!). We either recommend to join others who do drive (for that we created a Whatsapp group so you can discuss amongst each other), or to arrange for a taxi (see links below).
To return from Villa Vipolze to the place where you are sleeping, we will have taxis waiting outside the Villa from 1am to 5am in the morning, which you can hire as needed (also in groups).
